Welcome to Jill’s Spare Thyme Treats, Catering & More!
Allow me to share a bit about myself and the journey that led to the creation of this endeavor. After 34 fulfilling years as a Registered Nurse, I found myself at a new crossroads during the COVID era. It was then that I discovered my true passion – cultivating herbs, fruits, and vegetables, and raising chickens for farm-fresh eggs.
Though I cherished my nursing career, the newfound time at home allowed me to delve deeper into my love for cooking, baking, and experimenting with flavors. As I began crafting custom Bridal Showers for friends, infusing their favorite treats with unique herb blends and special touches, my passion for culinary creativity ignited.
About Jill’s Spare Thyme
What drives me is simple: I adore cooking and derive immense joy from nourishing people with delicious food. Moreover, I have a deep appreciation for my community's hardworking farmers and artisans. Jill’s Spare Thyme Treats, Catering & More is a testament to these values.
I may not be a trained chef, but I am a dedicated home cook committed to making life easier for others. Whether it's catering a Bridal Shower, orchestrating a budget-friendly wedding, providing a comforting home-cooked meal for a busy family, whipping up a fresh dessert, or preparing a holiday feast, I specialize in bringing people together through food.
Every dish I create is crafted with care, using locally sourced ingredients – some harvested from my own garden, greenhouse, chicken coop, and orchard, and others from trusted local partners who share my commitment to quality and community. I am proud to hold certifications from Kentucky Proud and Appalachian Proud, symbols of my deep-rooted pride in my heritage and region.
My family might think I'm a little crazy, and my friends might see me as a warrior, but the truth is, I'm simply a Mom and Grammy with a bit of Spare Thyme on my hands, eager to share my passion with you.
Jill's Culinary Philosophy: A Niche Found, a Passion Nurtured
“When I started, I didn't know where my niche was going to be exactly. I think maybe my niche found me. I primarily do dinners for people and deliver to their homes. I also offer catering for smaller events showers, luncheons, smaller weddings, family gatherings and other events of the like. Crazy doesn't really bother me so don't be afraid to run crazy ideas past me. I love people with food, try to make people's busy lives easier and try to be a champion for small businesses and local farmers. I usually have flour marks on my pants and my hair isn't as fixed up as I would like for it to be.” - Jill
Menu
Writing out a menu could be the hardest task I've ever sat down to do. I am a home cook, I will try about anything. There honestly isn't anything too crazy for me to try, except liver, so run crazy past me. No liver is coming out of my kitchen, not on my watch. I will do my best to give you some ideas of what I make, but this isn't an inclusive list. It is just some ideas to get your thoughts turning.
